The film, which focuses on the Russian painter Vassily Polenov and his trips to the Middle East in the late nineteenth century, is directed by Elena Yakovich, with the script co-authored by the writer Alexander Ilichevsky, and produced by the artist’s great-granddaughter, Natalya Polenova, founder of the Vassily Polenov Association.

The film will be introduced by Professor John E. Bowlt (University of Southern California), who will be giving the Slade Lectures at the University of Cambridge this autumn. After the screening there will be a round-table discussion with Elena Yakovich, Alexander Ilichevsky, Yury Kublanovskiy, and Natalya Polenova, followed by a wine reception.
